PimpMyVinyl – Privacy Policy
Effective date: September 30, 2026
PimpMyVinyl recognises the records you play on your turntable and keeps a history of your listening. It is built so that your data stays with you: the developer does not collect any data from the app.
What the app does not do
- No account with the developer, no analytics, no advertising, no tracking.
- Nothing you do in the app is sent to the developer.
Microphone
When an iPhone or iPad acts as a server, the app listens to the turntable through the microphone to recognise the music. The audio is analysed by ShazamKit, Apple's music recognition service, under Apple's Privacy Policy. The app does not record or keep the audio, and the microphone turns off by itself after 10 minutes of silence. You can deny or revoke microphone access at any time in the device's Settings.
Your listening history
The records you play and their statistics are stored on your devices and synced through your own private iCloud database, which only you can access. The developer cannot see it. You can delete it by removing the app's data from iCloud (Settings › your name › iCloud).
Discogs
If you choose to connect Discogs, your personal Discogs token is stored in your iCloud Keychain. The app uses it to read your collection from Discogs and passes it to the PimpMyVinyl servers on your home network that it connects to. Discogs handles your data under its own privacy policy.
Online services used to identify records
To show record details, pressings, tracklists and sleeves, the app sends the identifiers or titles of the recognised records to Discogs, MusicBrainz and the Cover Art Archive. These requests contain no personal information and are used only to answer the request.
Home network
PimpMyVinyl devices find each other on your local network (Bonjour) and share what is playing and the listening history with the other PimpMyVinyl devices in the same network. This traffic stays on your network.
Children
The app does not knowingly collect any data from anyone, including children.
Changes
If this policy changes, the new version will be published at this address with a new effective date.
